In today’s countdown to the Fourth of July, we will be getting to know the women of the Revolution through Cokie Roberts’ book Founding Mothers: Remembering the Ladies. In a letter dated March 31, 1776, Abigail Adams wrote to her husband, John Adams, “I long to hear that you have declared an independency. And, by the way, in the new code of laws which I suppose it will be necessary for you to make, I desire you would remember the ladies and be more generous and favorable to them than your ancestors.” Roberts takes this message to heart and presents the untold stories of the ladies who helped forge our nation. Through lively, captivating language and engaging illustrations (provided by Caldecott Honor-winning artist Diane Goode), she deftly reveals the remarkable contributions America’s Founding Mothers. I hope you enjoy getting to know these brave, patriotic women as much as I did!
